Deep Sea Bonspiels – Each year The Cumberland Curling Club host two seafood bonspiels. These two tournaments are much anticipated in the Ottawa Curling Community, not for the competition but for the delicious food and hospitality served by the members of the Cumberland Curling Club.

The Men’s Deep Sea was first held in 1976 with the mixed event starting in 1981. These events started after Doug Murray went to the Fisherman’s Spiel held in Kinston. He came back from a great spiel thinking that this would be a good idea to build on in his club. To view past winners select the event. Mens or Mixed.

Battle of the Sexes – The Battle of the Sexes is a new event to the club that started in 2002/03. It is built on a popular club event held each year at the Rideau Curling Club. The event pits the Women against the Men in an age-old battle to see who the better competitors are. The rules of the event are what make it enjoyable to curlers of all abilities and there are of course, no holds bared.

The men are one up on the ladies, come out this year to see who will be victorious and get the prestige of hanging the trophy in their locker room and bragging rights to being the better sex.

Susan Edwards – This event was started in 1981 in memory of the daughter of one of the club’s founding members Ron Edwards. It started out as a cash spiel and ran for many successful years.
In the 2001/2002 season The Susan Edwards Spiel evolved into play down for club supremacy. The winner of each night from before and after Christmas, as well as the best rink from our daytime league, battle to become the best in club for the year.

Year End Banquet – At the end of every year the Club hosts a banquet to celebrate another successful year of curling. This is a time for everyone to come out and enjoy a wonderfully catered meal and relive the experiences from the year.

The awards always follow dinner, where they winners and runners up from each night are recognized.  This is followed by music and dancing to close out the curling season

Other: --  The Club also hosts other bonspiels sanctioned by the OVA/OVCA throughout the year.  We maintain an information board where members can find specific dates of all events.  We also post invitations from other clubs seeking teams to play in their bonspiels and encourage those who wish to travel and visit other clubs to do so as representatives of the Cumberland Curling Club.

We are planning to run an “opening fun bonspiel” this curling year focused mainly on getting to know better all club members.  Register for this event along with your application form or call the Membership Director for additional details.  A Wine and Cheese and some special celebrations to recognize our 60th year will follow the Opening Spiel.
We hope to see you all there.
